- 18…Qf6 Threatening to take the Q. Kt. P. with his Q. Kt.
- 19.Rd1 Intentionally leaving the Q. B. P. to be taken, as the capture would cost Black his Knight; for suppose 19. K. Kt. takes Q. B. P. 20. B. takes Kt. And Black dare not take the Bishop, on account of the other Bishop taking the K. R. P. (ch.), and thus winning his Queen.
- 23.b5 A strange miscalculation, and as unfortunate as strange, since White's game had improved considerably during the last few moves. Mr. Lowenthal plays the latter portion of this game deplorably ill.
- 33.Rf3 What a predicament this move involves him in immediately!
- 34.Bf2 He could do nothing better. After playing his R. to K. B's 3rd, the game was past redemption.
