The event and its record

Albéric O’Kelly de Galway won the Belgian championship at Eupen with eight points from nine games, finishing undefeated and two points ahead of Robert Lemaire. Georges Thibaut was third on 5½. Ten players contested the round robin from 15 to 23 August 1953.

Twelve of the forty-five played games are available; thirty-three game scores are missing. Schumacher–O’Kelly on 19 August is included because the published historical source places the game with Eupen, although its archive headers say FBE-ch and Antwerp. Those native headers and its unknown round are retained.

The June federation championship at Antwerp was a separate competition, also won by O’Kelly. Its forty-five games are not part of this Eupen collection.
