Incomplete record. This archive holds 119 games of this event; the others are missing, and the number played is not established.
Tony Miles scored 7½/9 to win the third Chicago International. Alexander Shabalov and Benjamin Finegold followed on seven in the 37-player, nine-round Swiss.
International and Amateur
The International was part of a festival with a separate Amateur event. The contemporary report’s 224 entrants refer to the festival as a whole, not the International’s field. The separately advertised Chicago Open in May was another competition.
Documented missing games
The contemporary report records seven encounters between grandmasters, six decisive. Together with the participant’s final table, it establishes three played games absent from approved sources: Shabalov’s wins over Yermolinsky in round seven and Gurevich in round eight, and de Firmian’s round-eight win over Yermolinsky. Their colors are unestablished. The archive’s 119 scores cannot provide a full final table.
Source disagreements
Individual scores retain their approved moves, results and headers where the final table disagrees. The recorded Fischer, Robert is distinct from Bobby Fischer: the participant table lists the 2155-rated Virginia entrant as Fischer, R.J. The game is retained under its approved recorded name without expanding the initials or assigning a different identity.
Result
The archive preserves 119 scores. Three played GM games are documented but unavailable: Shabalov–Yermolinsky in round seven, Shabalov–Gurevich and de Firmian–Yermolinsky in round eight. Colors and the complete physical-game total are unestablished.
