Chilean Championship 1961
Incomplete record. This archive holds 90 of the 91 games played; 1 is missing. The published fourteen-player results list records 91 ordinary results. Ninety scores survive in the approved archives; the round-12 Pilnik–Fernández win has no moves. No default notation was found; 91 played games is inferred from that complete result list.
Rodrigo Flores won the 1961 Chilean Championship with 10½ points from thirteen rounds. Herman Pilnik finished unbeaten on 10, and René Letelier took third with 9. Fourteen players contested a single round robin at the Club Universidad de Chile.
A strong national final
The championship opened at 7 p.m. on 19 June in the club’s rooms. The opening-day newspaper highlighted defending champion René Letelier, grandmaster Herman Pilnik, Rodrigo Flores and Julio Salas Romo.
The final order
Flores scored nine wins, three draws and one loss. Pilnik’s seven wins and six draws left him half a point behind. Eduardo Schroeder followed Letelier with 8½, and Carlos Jáuregui scored eight without a draw.
The surviving scores
Both approved archives preserve the same ninety scores. Pilnik’s round-12 win over Eduardo Fernández appears in the published result list, but its approved archive record has no moves. The list gives 91 ordinary results and contains no default notation; the total of 91 played games is inferred from that record. The available scores therefore do not produce the full final standings.
Result
Full published totals are supplied for historical context. The ninety available scores omit Pilnik’s round-12 win over Eduardo Fernández, so a table computed from the scores would incorrectly leave Pilnik level with Letelier on nine.
