Gioachino Greco’s Illustrative Games

Greco’s illustrative games are instructional examples and manuscript variations. Hoffmann’s The Games of Greco (1900), preface p. vii, describes them as imaginary games and says no records of Greco’s actual board contests survive. The two source groups contain 81 distinct game scores. Their 1620 date tags are preserved source metadata; the manuscript’s dated epistle does not establish a played event. NN denotes an anonymous side. The numbered examples and variations were rearranged by later editors.
