Incomplete record·5 of 56 games archived

Incomplete record. This archive holds 5 of the 56 games played; 51 are missing. Fifty-one played scores are missing: 23 from international Group A and all 28 from Group B. The five surviving scores include a draw with an exact player-name correction and a disclosed printed move variant.

Philidor 1847 celebrated its centenary with two international eight-player tournaments. Haije Kramer and Alberic O’Kelly de Galway shared Group A on 6½/7, while Harry Golombek won Group B on 5/7.

The club’s hundredth anniversary

The international tournaments opened at De Harmonie on 4 November. Each group had eight players and seven rounds, with adjournments scheduled between playing days. The national eight-player competition and the shorter class tournaments were separate events.

Van Vliet replaced the absent Luxembourg player Dörner before the first round. Both international groups completed their schedules on 13 November. Kramer and O’Kelly shared the first two prizes in Group A; Kramer received the honorary medal after drawing lots, rather than after an extra game.

Separate final standings

Group A: Kramer and O’Kelly 6½ each; Henneberke 4; Boven and Bunt 3 each; Blokker 2; Ploegh and Van Vliet 1½ each.

Group B: Golombek 5; Van den Tol and Devos 4½ each; Mulder van Leens Dijkstra 4; Scholtens 3½; Mantz 3; Van Doesburgh 2; Zijlstra 1½.

These are the published historical totals. Each group’s 28 pairings is documented as physically played in the original round reports and completions. Two postponed Group B games were played on 12 November; they were not defaults.

Surviving scores and a guarded name correction

Five approved scores survive, all from Group A. Searches of development PostgreSQL and the approved Mega2026 archive found no further or longer score for this occasion. Twenty-three played scores from A and all twenty-eight from B are missing.

The round-six draw’s native names were reversed. The contemporary report explicitly places O’Kelly on Black, and Kramer’s own later column prints Kramer as White. An exact source-specific policy corrects those two names while preserving the draw, native moves, date and round.

Kramer’s printed score has 29...Be7 where the native score has 29...Bc7. Both lines reach the same position after 31...Bxd8, and the other 68 plies agree. The native Bc7 continuation is retained. The original Schaakmat matrix image was not obtained; its later transcription was checked against the contemporary local reports rather than described as an inspected original.

Result

Kramer and O’Kelly shared Group A with 6½/7; Golombek won Group B with 5/7.

The two international groups had separate standings. Only five scores survive in the approved archives, so a combined computed grid would be misleading. Official group totals are given below.
