Marshal Tito Cup, First Group, Poreč 1973
Incomplete record. This archive holds 141 games of this event; the others are missing, and the number played is not established. 141 game scores are available. At least six additional played Partizan games are documented, but the whole event’s actual played total is unconfirmed.
Sixteen qualified clubs contested the national Marshal Tito Cup final at Poreč in five Swiss rounds, with four boards in each match. Crvena zvezda finished first on 14 board points, ahead of Juvent Zagreb on 13 and Partizan on 12½. The archive preserves 141 game scores.
The Cup and the festival
The Cup final was Group I of the XVI International Team Chess Festival. Other festival groups formed separate competitions, and foreign teams played in Group II and below. City and republican qualifying events preceded this sixteen-team final. The detailed contemporary schedule places its five rounds on 19–23 May, with adjournments and the festival’s closing ceremony on 24 May.
The published standings
Goran Antunac’s contemporary report gives the final board-point totals for all sixteen clubs. The standings shown here retain equal-point groups without inventing their internal tie-break order. A complete official playing roster for every club has not been recovered.
An incomplete game record
Contemporary Borba reports document six Partizan games whose scores are absent from the approved holdings. They describe adjourned positions and report their later results, establishing that missing played games exist. Five rounds on four boards produce 160 nominal board slots, but the reports inspected do not establish a complete default census; the whole actual played total therefore remains unconfirmed.
The surviving Milićević–Matulović game is recorded with the date 5 April despite its Cup label and second-round board number. That source date is preserved. The published Minić–Rajković score omits a short repeated sequence found in the surviving game record; the recorded moves are retained.
Final standings
The full published team totals are shown. 141 scores survive in the approved sources; at least six other played games are documented. The nominal 160 board slots are not asserted as a verified played-game total.
