Incomplete record. This archive holds 9 games of this event; the others are missing, and the number played is not established. Three further February New York blitz games are printed in Korchnoi’s Chess Games but absent from both approved archives. The whole collection’s played count is unknown; nine available scores must not be treated as a complete tournament.

This collection preserves nine games recorded as New York blitz in 1974. Eight feature Viktor Korchnoi and can be identified with his February visit; the precise occasion of Vlastimil Hort’s draw with Jan Timman remains unconfirmed.

Korchnoi’s February games

The Manhattan Chess Club’s historical chronology records Korchnoi winning a special Master Rapids in February. Levy and O’Connell’s 1979 collection prints eleven New York blitz games from that month. Eight of those scores appear here, including his loss to an opponent recorded as Biritcher. The book supplies no forename for that opponent.

Three other printed February games—Korchnoi against James Sherwin and L. Levy, and Arthur Bisguier against Korchnoi—are absent from the approved game sources. They establish a gap in the surviving archive, but do not establish the whole tournament’s played count or full standings.

The limits of the record

Hort–Timman shares the approved New York blitz 1974 label, but an independent month, venue and tournament identification has not been established for that game. It remains in this collection without being assigned to Korchnoi’s February competition.

The games retain their recorded year-only dates, unknown rounds, names and moves. The nine available scores are not a full tournament table, and no combined standings are calculated from them.
