Score
Game 155 in Philip W. Sergeant’s Morphy’s Games of Chess (1916), printed pages 217–218. Commentary from this edition; named earlier annotators remain credited in the notes.
- 6.O-O 6 Q—R5 is the best continuation—better than 6 Kt—BP, as played by Meek in the preceding game. Against the slow text-move Black’s P—Q3 is as effective as in other variations of the Scotch, e.g. in the 4 B—QB4, B—B4; 5 Castles, P—Q3 variation, where P—Q3 is attributed to Paulsen.
- 21.Kh2 If P—KKt3, Black mates in 4 with 21 R×Pch, etc.
