Score
- 8…Qe7 This defence leads to a game full of interesting play.
- 14…Nc7 So far Black has kept the balance very well, but now he relaxes. He ought to open the files in the centre, where he is strong; e.g. 14) .... P - Q 4; 15) P x K P, Kt x P; 16) Kt - B 5, Q - B sq followed soon by P - B 3 with a good position.
- 15…b5 Now P - Q 4 would fail on account of 16) P x K P, Q x P?; 17) B - B 4.
- 16.f4 White opens the K B file, in order to bring a strong pressure to bear on Black's K B 2.
- 19.Bg2 Threatening Q - K 3.
- 19…Ng5 It would have been better to institute a counter attack on the Queen's side: 19) .... P - Kt 5; 20) P x P, Kt - Q Kt 4; 21) B - K 3 (or Q - K 3), Q x P.
- 23…Bh3 After this move the White Knight takes up a commanding position at K B 5. But Black is hampered in any case. White threatens to double Rooks on the K B file, and afterwards exert a pressure on Black's position by Kt - B 5 and Q - Kt 4.
- 30…Re6 If instead 30) .... Kt x B P, then 31) B x P. If 31) .... R x B, then follows 32) Kt x R ch, P x Kt; 33) R - B 6, Kt - Kt 3; 34) P - K 6. And after 31) B x P, P x B White would win by 32) P - K 6, R x P; 33) R x R, P x R; 34) Kt x P ch, K - Kt 2; 35) R - B 7 ch, Q x R; 36) Q x R; 36) Q x Q ch, K x Kt; 37) Q - B 6 ch.
- 36.Nf5 If 36) .... K - R 2, White plays 37) R - Kt 4 and wins easily, as the K R P falls. The same Rook's move would also be decisive against any other King's move.
