Seven historical chess photographs
Six photographs shared with permission from the Chess Federation of Russia, and Fritz Cohen’s view of the 1964 Olympiad headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Seven photographs have joined the historical gallery with photographer and source credits.
The Chess Federation of Russia photographs show Adrian Mikhalchishin in Moscow in 1984, Ulf Andersson playing Gyula Sax at the 1982 Moscow Interzonal, a young Alexander Morozevich with Vladimir Yurkov, participants in the 1970 RSFSR Championship in Kuibyshev, another group with Karpov tentatively associated with that event, and Vasily Smyslov with Mikhail Botvinnik in Moscow in the 1990s. Boris Dolmatovsky photographed Mikhalchishin and the two former world champions; the other photographers are unidentified in the available source records.
Fritz Cohen’s photograph shows the Sheraton Hotel, headquarters of the 1964 Chess Olympiad in Tel Aviv. The Government Press Office supplied a complete original and permits its display under the National Photo Collection terms, with photographer and Government Press Office credit.
