Board 7 of the Birmingham blindfold display; Mr. Carr's series of irregular opening moves only hastened his defeat.
- 5…Ba6 This series of unusual moves was no doubt adopted with the view of embarrassing the blindfold player, instead of which it only served so to aid the development of his forces as to place victory in his hands in a comparatively short space of time.
- 12…hxg5 Black has indeed placed himself in a deplorable situation by attempting to puzzle his opponent in the opening.
- 13.Bxh7+ Kt. to K. B's 6th (ch.) would also have led to a speedy termination.
- 19.Rf3 Threatening mate in two moves.
- 23.Kf2 Terminating the game in masterly style, and with an interest for which, from the nature of the opening, we had not looked.
