Dutch Championship 1950

Euwe returns the championship to tournament play and wins by two points
17–29 July 1950 · Amsterdam, Netherlands
Euwe won with 9½/11

For the first time since 1938, the Dutch title was decided by a regular all-play-all tournament rather than a candidates event followed by a match against Max Euwe. The change of format did not change the champion: Euwe scored 9½/11, went undefeated and won by two clear points.

Back to an all-play-all championship

The preceding title cycles had selected a challenger for Euwe, who then defended in a match. In 1950 the former world champion agreed to enter the championship field directly, joining eleven rivals in a complete 66-game round-robin.

Still far ahead

Euwe won eight games and drew three. Theo van Scheltinga placed second on 7½, Carel van den Berg third on 7, and Nicolaas Cortlever fourth on 6½; none came within two points of the champion.
