Dutch Championship 1976

An undefeated Timman completes a three-year championship sweep
15–28 April 1976 · Leeuwarden, Netherlands
Timman won with 8½/11

Jan Timman made it three Dutch titles in three years at Leeuwarden. Six wins and five draws carried him to 8½/11, a point ahead of Hans Ree and still without a loss across the championship.

Three in succession

Timman's run began with his first national title in 1974 and continued through commanding victories in 1975 and 1976. The third win was built on the same foundation as the first two: a positive score against the field and no defeats.

Ree leads the pursuit

Ree finished alone in second on 7½, while Jan Hein Donner took third with 7. Fred van der Vliet followed on 6½; every other player ended at least two and a half points behind Timman.
