Dutch Championship 1987
Timman dominates one of the strongest Dutch fields yet assembled
With Jan Timman and Gennadi Sosonko both back in the field, the 1987 championship ranked among the strongest Dutch editions yet staged. Timman removed any suspense: he went undefeated, scored 9½/11, and won by two and a half points.
A field restored
Timman had missed the preceding three championships, and Sosonko had also been absent. Their return gave the event unusual depth; the field additionally included John van der Wiel, Paul van der Sterren, Hans Ree and Gert Ligterink.
No one gets close
Timman won eight games and drew three. Sosonko and Van der Wiel shared the next score on 7, leaving the champion two and a half points clear; Van der Sterren followed on 6½.
