Kasparov–Timman Match 1985
The new world champion wins a six-game KRO studio match
Garry Kasparov defeated Jan Timman 4–2 in a public six-game KRO match at Hilversum. The sponsored contest offered a $10,000 purse and drew large studio audiences over six playing days.
A public match without a title at stake
Hilversum's club history places the contest in KRO's annual full-length match series. The games were played before a public audience, without adjournments, and could last as long as seven hours.
Contemporary reporting described a six-game match and a $10,000 purse. Kasparov won three games, Timman one, and two were drawn, completing a 4–2 score one month after Kasparov became world champion.
