Espig ahead of Uhlmann
Thirty players contested nine rounds in Leipzig’s international open in December 1972. Lutz Espig won with 7½/9, half a point ahead of Wolfgang Uhlmann. Werner Golz finished third with six.
The collection contains all 135 games: fifteen in each round, with every player represented nine times. The complete scores reproduce the published top three. The table’s other point totals are calculated from the games; an official tiebreak order for equal scores has not been established.
The published reference gives a start on 4 December, while the game records begin on 3 December. Original game dates are retained. This open was separate from Leipzig’s city-prize international tournaments.
