Lublin PKWN Invitational 1977

Savon and Panchenko share first in the main invitational
14–30 July 1977 · Lublin, Poland
Vladimir Savon and Alexander Panchenko shared first with 9/13.

Vladimir Savon and Alexander Panchenko shared first with 9/13 in the main invitational of the 13th PKWN International Chess Festival. Fourteen players met in a single round robin. The contemporary published table places Stefan Witkowski third on 8½.

The main tournament

The contemporary final matrix gives Aleksander Sznapik, Zbigniew Doda, Slobodan Martinović and Goran Antunac 7½ each; Andrzej Sydor and Nikolai Radev 7; Tadeusz Lipski, Lothar Zinn and Oscar Castro 4½; Rafał Marszałek and Gerardo Lebredo 3½. Equal-point groups share places here without an invented tiebreak.

The festival also held a separate women’s tournament and a separate open competition. They were not qualifying or title-playoff stages of this fourteen-player invitational and are not combined with its results. A contemporary Głos Wielkopolski report independently records all seven results of round seven.

Published points and preserved scores

Every one of the 91 published pairings has a legal native record. Four records, however, retain only a single move. The approved fallback archive supplies the same four short versions, so the collection does not claim 91 complete historical move sequences.

The contemporary yearbook and later Polish historical matrix give White wins in Witkowski–Doda and Antunac–Zinn. The native records instead contain one-ply draws. The standings above follow the contemporary published points; the cross-table cells and game pages preserve those native draws. No result or move has been silently rewritten.

All native game dates remain year-only and all recorded rounds remain unchanged. The yearbook’s original full table and an original newspaper interim report were inspected. The original Szachy report, AIPE issue, organizer bulletin and complete original round/date ledger were not acquired; the later OlimpBase scores serve only as comparison evidence.
