Aleksandar Matanović and Péter Dely shared first with 7/9, half a point ahead of Bruno Parma.

Aleksandar Matanović and Péter Dely shared first with 7/9 in the international tournament organized by Gambit Bonneweg. Bruno Parma finished half a point behind them.

Two routes to first place

Matanović remained unbeaten with five wins and four draws. His first-round victory over Dely gave the Hungarian his only defeat, but Dely recovered to finish with six wins and two draws.

Parma scored 6½. Johannes Eising and Mathias Gerusel shared fourth on six, followed by Manfred Christoph and Heinz Schaufelberger on 3½. Norbert Stull scored three, Immo Engert two and Paul Peters half a point.

An anniversary tournament

Gambit Bonneweg organized the tournament at the Institut National des Sports to celebrate the club’s 35th anniversary. The ten-player field included two Luxembourg players, Peters and Stull, alongside visitors from Yugoslavia, Hungary, West Germany and Switzerland.

Play began on Saturday, July 3. The final two rounds were scheduled for July 10 and 11, followed by the prize ceremony on the Sunday evening. The contemporary final report declared Matanović and Dely joint winners.

The complete result record

All forty-five pairings survive as legal archive scores. Contemporary newspaper reports give every round pairing and all ten final totals; two games reported as adjourned are uniquely resolved by those final scores.

The archive retains its original unknown game dates within 1971. The tournament’s historical dates come from the original reports. Its numbered source label is retained without asserting a numbered public edition.

Wort printed Gerusel–Matanović as a win for Black, but Tageblatt gives a draw. The draw agrees with both newspapers’ final totals and is retained in the archive.
