Paris International Chess Congress 1867
Thirteen players met in Paris for an unusual double round robin in which draws were replayed and scored no points. Ignatz Kolisch took first prize. All 136 games in the historical record survive.
A congress with an unusual score system
The international grand tournament began on 4 June and ended on 11 July 1867. Each player was scheduled to meet every opponent twice, but draws counted for zero and were replayed; withdrawals and default decisions also left players with different totals of recorded games.
The Paris event’s official prize order placed Kolisch first, followed by Szymon Winawer and Wilhelm Steinitz. Gustav Neumann was fourth even though the archive’s ordinary half-point-for-a-draw calculation gives both Kolisch and Neumann 19 points.
Why the raw table ties
Edo's score table gives Kolisch 19 points from 22 games and Neumann 19 from 24. That matches the games here exactly, but it doesn't reflect the rule that draws scored nothing and had to be replayed.
So the page names Kolisch as the winner. The 136-game grid is still a complete record of the games, but its ordinary points column isn't the official prize order.
The complete played record
All 136 games are here, and each player's number of games and results match Edo's table.
The source gives no round numbers, so the games are listed in their original order.
