The event and its record
Marks Pasman won his third Riga city championship in 1958, finishing unbeaten on 13½ points from sixteen games. Andrejs Pētersons followed with twelve, and Eduards Gornevs took third with ten. The men’s final began on 21 November and ended on 29 December at the Riga Central Chess Club.
All 136 played games are available. Seventeen players competed over seventeen rounds, each facing sixteen opponents and having one unscored rest turn. Every round contains eight preserved games. The results reproduce the final-round report and its leading point totals.
In the last round Pasman drew with V. Ivanovs, who thereby reached the candidate-master norm. Pētersons beat Pupels, and Gornevs defeated Skuja to take third place. The women’s championship and the club’s other tournaments were separate competitions.
