- 10.b3 It would not at all be bad to push at once P - K 4, for after 10) .... P x P; 11) Kt x P, Kt - B 4, White would play 12) R - Q sq, and 10) .... P - B 5; 11) B - B 2 was not to be feared.
- 16.Rxd6 The combination is based on 16) .... Q x R; 17) Kt x Kt, Q x Kt; 18) Kt - Q 5, Q - Kt 4; 19) P - B 4, Q - R 3; 20) Kt x Kt ch, P x Kt; 21) R - B 3, or 20) Kt - K 7 ch, followed by Kt x R and P - B 5. But the second player evolves a fine counter combination, and proves White's combination to have a subtle flaw.
- 16…Nxf3+ Apparently losing a piece; but the resulting break-up of White's King's wing gives him the opportunity for a dangerous attack.
- 20.Qe5 If 20) Q - Q 2, B x P; 21) Q - Kt 5, P - K Kt 3; 22) P - K R 3 [P - Q R 3?, R - B 4], K R - B sq. The best was in my opinion 20) P x P, K R - Q sq [B x P?; 21) P x R Q ch followed by Q - K 5]; 21) B x R.
