1. 1…e5 I prefer P to Q 3.
2. 8.Nxc3 It is better to retake with the Knight than with the Pawn, because the Black King's Knight is better posted than the White one, and retaking with the Knight, White manages to exchange the Knights.
3. 10…Qh4 The attack introduced by this move is premature. Better would be Q to Q 3, followed by B to K 3, developing his Pieces by these moves.
4. 13.Bb5 Well played. If 13. B x B, then P x B; 14. P to Kt 3, Q to R 6; 15. Q to K 3, P x P; 16. R x P, R x R; 17. P x R, Q to Kt 5, ch [17. Q x R (?), R to K B sq]; 18. K to B 2, P to K 4 (!); 19. P x P, R to B sq, ch; 20. K to K sq, Kt x P (!), and Black has the better game.
5. 14…Qh5 Black rightly avoids the exchange of the Queens as long as possible, since White by his two Bishops, in the ending, would have a slight advantage.
6. 15.Qg5 If 15. B X Kt, P X B; 16. Q X P, then Q to B 4, ch; 17. K to R sq, Q X B P. Black has a good game.
7. 18…Qg6 White makes this move with the intention to answer Q x B P by 18. B to B 6, Q to B 4, ch; 19. P to Q 4.
8. 24.c4 Black does not try' to defend the Queen's Bishop's Pawn, which at length cannot be saved, White being able, by playing B to K B 4, to attack the Pawn for a second time and thus to secure it.
9. 33…Kf7 White now has the superior game.
10. 35.Rxc6 R to K 8, ch; 34. K to B 2, R to B 8, would be bad on account of 35. B X Kt, P X B; 36. R to Kt 8.
11. 36…Rb1 White should have played 35. K to B 2 in order to prevent the Black Rook from occupying the eighth rank of the board; with 35. K to B 2 White would have an easily won game, the Black Queen's Bishop's Pawn being lost anyway. (See diagram.)
12. 40.Ba5 40. P to B 6 would be bad on account of R x B; 41. P x B, RxP.
