Gothenburg Jubilee 1920 — Group B
Paul Johner won the B group of the Gothenburg Chess Society’s fortieth-anniversary tournament with 11/15. Allan Nilsson and Max Euwe finished one point behind in a sixteen-player single round robin.
A separate jubilee group
The jubilee brought together three separate groups. This archive covers Group B; the international masters’ Group A has its own event page. Johner lost his opening game to Euwe, then remained unbeaten for the next fourteen rounds. He closed with four consecutive wins.
The surviving scores
All 120 played-game records are available. Carls–John’s printed record ends at 34...Rxc3, although White resigned on move 70; Olsson–Sjöberg’s ends at 72.Nxf7, although White won on move 87. Those later moves are unavailable. Sämisch–Jacobson retains the source’s 9.Qc1; the organizer book prints 9.Qb1, with both paths returning to d1 on move 13.
The original round ledger and the organizer’s printed resignations establish wins in Nilsson–Olsson, round thirteen, and Sämisch–Jacobson, round fourteen. Their source records incorrectly say draw. The archive corrects those two results and preserves their recorded moves.
