Leipzig Anderssen Masters 1877
Twelve players contested the Leipzig tournament in a single round-robin, and Louis Paulsen won with 9/11. Adolf Anderssen and Johannes Zukertort shared the next score on 8½; Edo's event record also lists a one-game playoff in which Anderssen defeated Zukertort.
The main tournament
The twelve-player round-robin generated 66 games, with every competitor playing eleven times. Paulsen finished half a point above Anderssen and Zukertort; Szymon Winawer was fourth on 7½.
The field also included Carl Göring, Berthold Englisch, Emil Schallopp, Karl Leffmann, Johannes Metger, Ernst Flechsig, August Franke, and Wilfried Paulsen.
The extra game
Edo records one additional played game between the two runners-up: Anderssen beat Zukertort 1–0 in a playoff. Its notes explain that Di Felice includes the playoff while Gaige and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi omit it. A complete collection therefore contains the 66 round-robin games and that playoff.
