Incomplete record. This archive holds 33 of the 90 games played; 57 are missing.

Mark Dvoretsky won the fourteen-player Ilmar Raud Memorial main tournament with nine wins and four draws, scoring 11/13. Mikhail Tal finished half a point behind; Anatoly Donchenko was third on 9½.

Dvoretsky’s unbeaten result

Dvoretsky’s 11/13 put him ahead of three grandmasters: Tal, Leonid Shamkovich and Alexey Suetin. In his account of the event, he credited his physical preparation and the faster time control of two hours for forty moves.

Tal’s only loss was against Gunnar Uusi. All thirteen of Tal’s games are preserved here.

A separate 42-player open was held alongside the main tournament. D. Zilberstein won that eleven-round event with 9/11; the table and games here cover the fourteen-player main section.

The surviving records

The main tournament archive preserves 33 of 90 played-game records. Fifty-seven played scores are unavailable. The Etruk–Pohla result was an unplayed default and its grid cells remain blank; the official standings include that result.

Two surviving records carry 1973 dates, and Uusi–Tal is labeled Vilnius. Published accounts and the result table place these games in Viljandi 1972; their original dates, sites and round tags are preserved. Some witnesses differ in opening move order or ending. The contemporary report confirms Heuer–Õim’s preserved 28.Raf1 and continuation, while another reference gives 28.Rd1.
