Borislav Ivkov won the seventh Venice International with 5/7. His three wins and four draws left him half a point ahead of Vladimir Antoshin.
An unbeaten winner
Ivkov defeated Stefano Tatai, Harry Golombek and Gino Fletzer, drawing his other four games. Antoshin finished on 4½; Levente Lengyel and Tatai shared third on four points. Lothar Schmid, Golombek and Svend Hamann each scored 3½.
Hamann’s final-round draw against Ivkov lasted just ten moves. The contemporary Danish report records its length; the surviving score ends after Black castles on move ten.
The international returns
The 1966 tournament resumed Venice’s international series after the 1953 edition. A later printed history records that some invited players declined, leaving a field of eight. This individual event was separate from the city’s later team competitions.
All twenty-eight scores
Every pairing survives as a positive legal score and agrees with the full published result matrix. All eight final totals also agree with the original May 1966 Northwest Chess Letter report. No default or missing game is identified.
The historical schedule dates the event to March 13–19. Individual native game headers retain their year-only dates and unknown rounds.
