Viña del Mar International 1947
Incomplete record. This archive holds 21 games of this event; the others are missing, and the number played is not established. Twenty-one records survive, including one ending. Contemporary reporting documents additional tournament play, but a full original played/default census was not obtained. The compiled 55 pairing results and 34 empty source records do not establish a physical total or a count of lost games.
Gideon Ståhlberg won with 8/10, one point ahead of Herman Pilnik. Walter Ader and Héctor Rossetto shared third and fourth on 6½. The archive retains 21 records from this eleven-player international tournament.
The result
The contemporary April 1947 Chess Review confirms the winner and leading places. The modern result listing leaves out Ader’s win over Mariano Castillo and consequently gives Ader only 5½. That win survives in the approved archive as an ending; including it restores Ader’s 6½ and his tie with Rossetto.
The reconciled results cover all 55 player pairings and agree with the leading contemporary totals. This is a compiled reconstruction, rather than an inspected original complete table. No original exhaustive account of defaults or withdrawals was obtained, so the number of games physically played remains unconfirmed.
What survives
Twenty records begin from the normal initial position. Ader–Castillo begins from an ending position with White to play at move 41. The short Castillo–Ståhlberg draw is preserved as recorded, without assuming either that it is truncated or that its nine moves tell the whole historical course.
The original May Chess Review prints the first 33 plies of Rossetto–Ståhlberg, exactly matching the archived score, and declares a draw. The native record continues the same perpetual checks. All native moves, dates, rounds, results and starting positions remain unchanged.
Both approved archives were checked after expanded PostgreSQL identity and version searches. No additional or longer standard target score was found. Thirty-four source headers have no moves; they are not all asserted to be lost played games. The historical standings therefore leave the played column unknown and unrepresented pairings unclassified.
