- 4…Be7 Here B to Q 3 can also be played; see move 11.
- 13…Bxe5 I think this move is not advantageous for Black, but that P to Q B 4 followed by B to Q B 2 would be better.
- 21…Nh8 P to Q 3; 22. P X P, Kt X P is better.
- 22.Kh1 In this and the following move White prepares for P to K Kt 4, but afterwards changes his mind; the position of the White King on K R sq with Black's Bishop at Q Kt 2 is fraught with danger. It would have been better at once to double the Rooks on the Queen's file.
- 26…Nxf4 Not Kt to K sq on account of 27. Kt x P, Kt x R; 28. Kt x R, &c.
- 29…Ng7 Perhaps P to Q 3 is better, or even P to Q 4.
- 31.g3 B to Q B sq could have been played; the actual move weakens the P at K B 3.
- 34.Rxb6 He ought to have played P x P, Q x P; 35. Q B to B sq, &c.
- 35.Bc1 R X B will not do on account of P x P.
- 36.Rg1 If B X P then Kt x B; 37. P x Kt, R to Kt 2; 38. R to Kt sq, K to R sq, with a strong attack; White has not time to capture the B at Q Kt 2.
- 38.Rg2 Q to K sq was better; Black could now force the win by 38. Kt x P, ch; 39. R X Kt (if K to Kt sq, Kt x B, &c.), R x R; 40. B x P, R X P; 41. B X R (if B X Q, R to B 8, mate!), Q takes B; 42. K to Kt 2, K to R sq and wins (see diagram).
- 40…fxg3 A pretty but not altogether sound continuation: 40. Q to Kt 3 decided the game immediately.
- 43.Kh3 If K to R sq, then R x B.
- 44.Be3 He should have played Q to Q B sq, then if R to Kt 6, ch; 45. K to R 4, R to Kt 7; 46. Q to K R sq (or B to B 4), R x B; 47. R x Q P, B x K B P; 48. B to Kt 7, ch, R x B; 49. R to Q 8, ch, R to Kt sq; 50. R x R, ch, K x R; 51. Q x B, &c.
- 48.Rd8 If R x B, then Kt to Kt 8, ch, wins.
