Reuben Fine scored four points from five games in Leningrad, finishing a point ahead of Grigory Levenfish. The six players met once each; all fifteen games survive in this collection.
A short tournament
Fine drew with Ilya Rabinovich in the first round, then defeated Levenfish and Alexander Ilyin-Zhenevsky. A draw with Vsevolod Rauzer left the final game against Alexander Budo to complete his unbeaten score.
In his contemporary final report, Mikhail Botvinnik described Budo’s promising opening position and the trap he then missed. Budo resigned on move forty-four. The other final-round games, Levenfish–Ilyin-Zhenevsky and Rabinovich–Rauzer, were drawn.
Levenfish finished on three points, Rabinovich on 2½, Budo and Rauzer on two each, and Ilyin-Zhenevsky on 1½. These are the totals printed in Pravda the following day.
The surviving scores
Two source labels hold the tournament’s games: eight have full March dates, while seven record only the year. Every score retains its own date and recorded round. Together they cover all three games in each of the five rounds, with no missing pairing.
