1. 5.d4 The books recommend 5. Kt to B 3, and there is no doubt that this move gives the first player better chances than 5. P to Q 4; for Black has nothing better to play than P to Q 3, whereupon follows 6. P to Q 4, B to Q 2; 7. R to K sq (!), and Black has a cramped game. If he Castles, then 8. B x Kt, B x B; 9. P x P, P x P; 10. Q x Q, Q R x Q; 11. Kt x P, B x P; 12. Kt x B, Kt x Kt; 13. Kt to Q 3 (!), P to K B 4; 14. P to K B 3, B to B 4, ch; 15. Kt x B, Kt x Kt; 16. B to Kt 5, and wins.
2. 5…Nxe4 I prefer P x P; 6. P to K 5, Kt to K 5; 7. Kt x P, Castles.
3. 6.d5 The usual move is 6. Q to K 2.
4. 6…Nb8 The simplest way to equalise the game is: Kt to Q 3; 7. B to R 4, P to K 5; 8. P x Kt, P x Kt; 9. P x P, ch, B x P; 10. B x B, ch, Q x B; 11. Q x P, Castles.
5. 11.Qc2 Preferable would be 11. P to Q R 3, and if 11.... Kt to R 3, then 12. P to Q Kt 4.
6. 29…Qd2 If Black played Kt P x P; 30. P x P, P x P, White would answer with Q x R P, and have a somewhat better game.
7. 39…Ra5 If R (Q Kt 7) to Q 7, then 40. R x R, R x R; 41. R to Q Kt sq.
