Halle Zonal 1963
Lajos Portisch won the 1963 Halle Zonal with an unbeaten 14/19. He finished a point ahead of Bent Larsen in the complete 20-player event, securing progress in the 1963–66 World Championship cycle.
A European zonal
Twenty players met once each, making 190 official played games. The event was a qualifying stage in the World Championship cycle that led to the 1964 Amsterdam Interzonal.
