Rovinj–Zagreb 1975 — Third Tournament of Peace

1975 · Zagreb
Gyula Sax won outright, half a point ahead of Vlatko Kovačević, Juraj Nikolac and Vitaly Tseshkovsky.

The final result

Gyula Sax won the third Tournament of Peace with 8½/13, half a point ahead of Vlatko Kovačević, Juraj Nikolac and Vitaly Tseshkovsky. The main group was a fourteen-player single round robin. The separate B tournament was the International Championship of Zagreb.

The main group had 91 scored pairings. Delo’s complete final-round ledger explicitly distinguishes the Hulak–Tseshkovsky draw from the Minić–Kuzmin win awarded without play. The resulting physical census is 90 games. Kuzmin and Minić each played 12 games; the published score and record below include the default among their 13 scored pairings. Its point is preserved in the standings, while the unplayed pairing is blank in the cross table.

Surviving scores

All 90 played games are represented, but Hulak–Tseshkovsky’s final-round draw survives here only as 1.e4. Its continuation and actual game length have not been recovered.

Ljubojević–Hulak has conflicting published endings. Two contemporary versions stop at 34...R1e3+ and report resignation or Black’s win; the retained legal record continues through 40...Rc4+. The evidence does not establish a unique correction, so the native score is preserved without an invented continuation or truncation.

Source game dates are preserved. The original tournament book cover dates the Rovinj segment 28 April–10 May and Zagreb 11–17 May 1975; the book interior has not been inspected.
