The third Sarajevo international brought grandmasters and rising Yugoslav masters together for one of the earliest editions of a tournament that would grow into a mainstay of the European calendar. Stojan Puc and Ludek Pachman finished level at the top, and Puc — who had also won the inaugural event in 1957 — took the trophy on tiebreak.
One of the oldest annual internationals
The Sarajevo tournament, first held in 1957 and later run under the name of the ŠK Bosna club, is among the oldest continuously staged international round-robins in Europe — mentioned in the same breath as Hastings, Wijk aan Zee, and the Capablanca Memorial. The 1960 event was the third in the series.
Twelve players contested the tournament from 30 March to 11 April 1960: a mix of established grandmasters and younger Yugoslav national masters. The foreign contingent was led by Denmark's Bent Larsen and Czechoslovakia's Ludek Pachman, alongside Spain's Román Torán.
