The 1958 Hoogovens top group ended with two Dutch names level in first. Jan Hein Donner and Max Euwe each scored 5½/9, half a point ahead of a three-way tie for third in an exceptionally compressed final table.
A balanced ten-player field
The invitation group was a nine-round single round-robin: ten players and 45 games, with every pairing played once. The official Tata Steel crosstable and the archive's complete game set record the same results throughout.
Alongside Donner and Euwe, the field included Aleksandar Matanović, Hans Bouwmeester, Gideon Ståhlberg, Alberic O'Kelly de Galway, Herman Pilnik and Vasja Pirc.
