TOURNAMENT
Monte Carlo 1902
1902 · Monte Carlo
Maróczy won Monte Carlo 1902, a 20-player single round-robin, with 14¾, a quarter-point ahead of Pillsbury. Monte Carlo used its distinctive replayed-draw scoring: a drawn game was replayed, the winner of the replay scoring ¾ and the loser ¼, and a second draw scored ½–½. The archive holds 184 counting games and 42 replayed draws; two counting games (Teichmann–Mason and Albin–Teichmann) survive only as an opening fragment indistinguishable from another game and are recorded as lost to history, and four further pairings have no surviving game (three of them Eisenberg's, who withdrew mid-event). The final points are the authoritative historical totals.
